In August 2013 the pilot project for the experimentation of Quantum’s intelligent lighting management technologies will start: a challenge characterized by extremely critical environmental conditions both for the temperature of the rooms and for the electromagnetic noises induced by rolling mills and presses: environmental conditions that have put Cree’s lighting fixtures and Quantum’s communication and light flow management system to the test.
The success of the pilot project allowed us to complete the relamping of the plant departments in December 2014 with over 600 lighting points replaced with LED technology luminaires with integrated Quantum’s QLight control and management system. The relamping of the external perimeter areas is expected to be completed by 2015, with the activation of the brand new 240 LED HOs by Cree on the tower that illuminates the forecourt.
The software application “Industrial Internet of Things” by Quantum governs the lighting criteria of the entire plant with important results of energy saving and consequent environmental impact.
We have reduced annual consumption by 1.3 Gigawatt/hour with an equivalent reduction in harmful emissions into the environment of over 4,000 tons of CO2 and a consequent environmental impact equivalent to having planted 20,000 new trees: 20 trees every year for each of the 1,000 employees of the group.
In December 2014, the Velo d’Astico plant achieves ISO 50001 certification, as proof of the policies of energy containment and the organization of business processes with particular attention to the environment and natural resources of our planet.
