BNP Paribas Cardif Italia, the insurance arm of the BNP Paribas Group, has launched an ambitious energy and environmental redevelopment project at its Milan headquarters, with the aim of drastically reducing electricity consumption for lighting, improving visual comfort in the workplace and enhancing its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

The project, developed in collaboration with Quantum, involved an office area of approximately 5,000 m² and was designed to compete for LEED GOLD certification, now one of the leading international awards in the field of sustainable building.

The core of the project was the replacement of the old luminaires with new Internet-connected LED systems, selected to ensure efficiency, durability and full compatibility with the existing electrical system, avoiding invasive changes to the wiring. The entire lighting infrastructure was equipped with environmental sensors and intelligent control technologies, which allow the light intensity to be dynamically adjusted according to the presence of people, the available natural light, the seasons, and even the expected weather conditions.

This intelligent and adaptive lighting management enables an extremely rational use of energy, with a 70% reduction in electricity consumption, corresponding to more than 160 MWh saved annually, and a reduction in CO₂ emissions equivalent to around 30 tonnes less oil burnt each year.

From an environmental point of view, the benefit is even more evident when projected on an urban scale: replicating this project on ten similar locations would produce an impact equivalent to neutralising the consumption of over 1,000 households. Added to this is the contribution to the creation of “virtual green lungs”, thanks to the reduction in emissions, estimated at over 3,000 equivalent trees per year.A project that goes beyond energy efficiency, becoming a replicable model of urban sustainability, quality of work and attention to the planet’s resources. A result that demonstrates how intelligent lighting can be a concrete tool for change.
