Fincantieri – Outdoor Lighting

In 2021, Quantum was commissioned by Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, to work on the Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard for the complete redevelopment of the external lighting.

The objective of the intervention was clear: to provide homogeneous, safe and long-lasting lighting, capable of effectively covering very large operational areas and guaranteeing high performance in environments exposed to atmospheric agents, subject to intense logistical and operational flows, even at night.

The project involved all the main external areas of the factory, starting from the entrance car park up to the Vari’s yard, a neuralgic area for transporting and launching boats. In such critical and dynamic contexts, lighting is not only a technical requirement, but a fundamental tool for operational safety, visibility and continuity of work.

In order to precisely meet these requirements, 200 LED lighting points were installed, selected from high-power and mechanically resistant models, capable of ensuring light uniformity, minimal maintenance and total compliance with light pollution regulations.

The lighting was designed to adapt to the considerable heights of the structures on the site and the large distances between the lighting points, without creating shadows or glare. Special attention was also paid to the aesthetic-functional integration of the new luminaires within the industrial area, without interfering with the existing infrastructure.

The results obtained were significant: 77% energy savings compared to the previous solution, which was obsolete and no longer adequate for current production and regulatory standards.The Fincantieri Muggiano project demonstrates how, even in complex, highly-intensive industrial environments, a well-designed lighting upgrade can combine efficiency, sustainability and technical performance, improving the working environment and reducing the environmental impact of the entire plant.
