Fonderia Zardo – the lighting challenge in the steel industry

Fonderia Zardo S.p.A., a historic Venetian company specialising in cast iron casting and the production of castings for industrial applications, has chosen Quantum for a challenging project of energy and functional upgrading of the lighting system in its Bolzano Vicentino factory.

Foundries are among the most complex industrial environments from a lighting point of view: high temperatures, presence of dust, constantly moving operating environments and the need to ensure safety, production continuity and optimal visibility at every stage of the work cycle.

Quantum met this challenge by designing and installing 520 LED luminaires specifically selected and certified to operate in high temperature environments. The intervention immediately resulted in a measured energy saving of 74% compared to the pre-existing situation, with a direct and tangible impact on the plant’s operating costs.

But the benefits did not stop at energy efficiency alone. The new lighting architecture has brought about a noticeable improvement in the quality of light, helping to increase personnel safety and visibility during critical operations. In addition, thanks to the robustness of the components and the operational stability of the installed technologies, there has been a reduction of over 90% in maintenance interventions, with a marked improvement in operational continuity and a drastic reduction in plant downtime.

The intervention demonstrated that even in industrial environments with high thermal stress it is possible to implement reliable, sustainable and high-performance LED solutions, capable of transforming lighting into a tool for efficiency and competitiveness.LED technology, now more than ever, is confirmed as the ideal choice for demanding sectors such as the steel industry, where reliability must be total and returns must be measurable over time.
