In 2022, Fruttital S.r.l., an Orsero Group company and one of Europe’s leading players in the import and distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables, turned to Quantum to tackle a crucial challenge: optimising the lighting in its temperature-controlled working environment, in full compliance with HACCP regulations.

In these spaces, where extremely cold conditions are necessary to ensure the freshness and safety of food, the lighting system plays a crucial role. Cold temperatures can compromise the performance and lifetime of traditional light sources, causing constant breakdowns, drops in light output and the need for frequent maintenance. In addition, any interruption or inefficiency can pose risks to both product quality and operational safety.

Quantum intervened with an in-depth technical study, analysing in detail the operating conditions, the specific lighting requirements of the different departments and the regulatory constraints related to food safety. The study made it possible to identify the most suitable LED solutions for refrigerated contexts, combining reliability, hygiene, energy saving and quality of light.

Among the main advantages noted by the proposed solutions:

• High energy efficiency, reducing consumption by up to 50% compared to conventional technologies;
• High colour rendering, essential for visual inspection and selection of fresh product;
• Longer servicelife with a drastic reduction in maintenance;

• Absence of fragile or contaminating materials, in full compliance with health and hygiene regulations.

In environments subject to strict HACCP protocols, correct lighting design is as important as production efficiency. The study carried out by Quantum has provided Fruttital with the decision-making tools for a possible future requalification intervention, based on technological solutions with high added value, perfectly in line with the Orsero Group’s quality standards. Even in the absence of an immediate executive project, the preliminary analysis and strategic consultancy phase represents a fundamental step to build a virtuous path towards efficiency, safety and sustainability.
