Paribas Cardif – Headquarters Office Building
The Milan headquarters of BNP Paribas Cardif, the insurance branch of the BNP Paribas Group, represents one of the most modern and functional office spaces in Italy’s economic capital. This environment, which hosts hundreds of employees every day across 5,000 m² of office space, has undergone a major lighting retrofit carried out with the technical support of Quantum.
The initiative stems from BNP Paribas Group’s strong commitment to turning its Corporate Social Responsibility policy into concrete actions that combine workplace wellbeing, technological innovation, and environmental sustainability. The stated goal: to reduce the building’s environmental impact through a more rational and efficient use of light.
The project involved the complete replacement of outdated lighting systems with new high-efficiency LED luminaires, connected to a digital platform capable of remotely managing each individual light point. The intervention was carried out without modifying the existing electrical wiring, minimizing interference with daily office activities and allowing for rapid system commissioning.
The result is a 70% reduction in electricity consumption for lighting, equivalent to approximately 160 MWh saved annually, and a CO₂ reduction corresponding to 30 tonnes of unburned oil. In terms of CO₂ absorption, this environmental benefit equals the planting of over 3,000 new trees every year.
The management platform, accessible via the Internet, allows intelligent and dynamic control of light intensity, adapting it in real time based on multiple parameters: presence detection, natural light levels, building orientation, activity cycles, seasonality, and weather forecasts. This ensures optimal visual comfort in every workspace, using light rationally—only where, when, and how it is needed.
A virtuous and replicable model, as highlighted by Cesare Ferrero, Head of BNP Paribas Real Estate Italy:
“BNP Paribas Group is one of the world’s leading financial institutions, with over 200,000 employees—19,000 of whom are based in Italy. We have the scale to make a meaningful contribution to environmental protection through energy efficiency projects in our buildings.”
Isabella Fumagalli, Head of BNP Paribas Cardif Italy, also emphasizes the human value of this initiative:
“Our Company strongly believes in and invests in technology and innovation aimed at creating solutions that put people’s wellbeing and protection at the center—whether our employees, as in this case, or our clients. We chose to collaborate with Quantum without hesitation, as they perfectly share this philosophy.”
This project, significant for the entire city of Milan, is a tangible example of how the tertiary sector can achieve measurable results in sustainability and innovation—with immediate benefits for both people and the planet. Just ten similar initiatives would be enough to offset the energy consumption and emissions of more than 1,000 families: a realistic prospect for spreading a new culture of energy efficiency.
