Lighting retrofit of the Saint-Gobain warehouse

For the warehouse of the Saint-Gobain Glass Italia S.p.A. production site in Pisa (PI), part of one of the world’s leading international groups in the field of advanced materials for construction and industry, Quantum carried out a targeted lighting retrofit aimed at improving energy efficiency, light quality and operational safety in storage and goods handling areas.

The intervention involved exclusively the warehouse and was designed to meet the typical requirements of a logistics-industrial environment, characterised by high ceilings, handling aisles and discontinuous use of spaces. The retrofit included the replacement of the existing lighting fixtures with new high-efficiency stand-alone industrial LED solutions, capable of ensuring high lighting performance, long-term reliability and reduced maintenance costs.

The project was developed based on detailed lighting surveys and an in-depth analysis of the warehouse’s operating conditions, with particular attention to light distribution, illuminance uniformity and operator safety. The detailed lighting design ensured illuminance levels compliant with UNI EN 12464-1-2 standards, contributing to improved visual comfort and reduced eye strain during daily operations.

The installed LED luminaires are equipped with integrated stand-alone sensors for presence detection and daylight harvesting, allowing local automatic lighting control based on the actual use of the spaces. This solution helps reduce energy waste and optimise consumption without the need for a centralised control system, while ensuring system simplicity and operational continuity.

Thanks to this intervention, Saint-Gobain Pisa now benefits from an efficient, reliable lighting system tailored to the needs of the warehouse, improving safety, workplace quality and contributing to the group’s sustainability objectives through reduced energy consumption and lower operating costs in the medium to long term.
