On 16 May, the International Day of Light will be held all over the world. The initiative, established and promoted by UNESCO, will be supported by a number of events with the aim of raising awareness around the world about the importance of light and lighting technologies.

The International Day of Light originated on 16 May 2015, the anniversary of the first successful laser operation in 1960. The aim of this day is to highlight the strategic importance of light and the role it plays in areas such as science, art, culture, education, sustainable development, but also medicine, energy and communication. In more detail, researchers and intellectuals will examine how reducing energy consumption is important for reducing climate-changing emissions: light can help in a concrete way.

The importance of energy saving

Desirable for some time now, energy saving is now one of the world’s most important goals. The future well-being of mankind and our planet is at stake.

Reducing energy consumption is crucial for limiting the use of fossil fuels, reducing CO2 emissions from them, and thus proactively intervening in climate change and its consequences.

It is therefore decisive for all of us to make a concrete contribution by implementing energy-saving behaviour in our daily lives. The use of LED lights is one of these small but useful measures.

The role of LEDs in energy saving

LEDs are among the latest generation of products that any of us can use in our daily lives to support the goal of reducing energy consumption in the home and work space. For industries in particular, having a long-lasting and energy-saving lighting solution at their disposal is a real step forward in the direction of progress.

At the same luminous efficiency, this type of product consumes on average ten times less energy than a conventional halogen source. The reduction in consumption is possible because with this technology only a small part of the energy developed is converted into heat, thus requiring minimal absorption of the latter. LEDs are also one of the solutions available to achieve energy efficiency in buildings, both on the residential and professional side.

QUANTUM and light

We at Quantum do just that! We are experts in energy efficiency in the field of lighting and we know how important it is to make everyone, individuals and companies, aware of the positive impact of efficiency in terms of climate, costs and savings.
We use established methodologies and apply innovative Internet-related technologies so that our customers’ economic development makes conscious use of our planet’s natural resources.
